The Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra is here and going strong.
Returning to our classrooms and performance halls has been exhilarating for our instructors, students, musicians, and audiences.
With your support, SRJO was empowered to continue right through the months of COVID offering livestream performances and providing jazz music lessons for at-risk youth. SRJO featured special guest artist Tia Fuller, acclaimed alto saxophonist and star of the Disney Pixar movie “Soul,” and the orchestra also premiered a rare performance of Duke Ellington’s 1935 historic masterwork, “Reminiscing in Tempo,” with a note-by-note transcription, rescuing this significant piece of jazz history for generations of jazz fans to come.
SRJO kept focused on sharing the joy of live professional jazz performance to people of all ages, and focused on children and teens through our Jazz4Kids and our esteemed Clarence Acox Jazz Scholars program.
One thing that can’t be overstated: the pandemic magnified the disparities in music education in under-resourced communities. While many students in the Seattle School system could afford private music lessons, unfortunately, most of the students SRJO serves could not.
This is how SRJO ensures that generations to come will be able to appreciate the history and enjoy the live experience of this truly American art form:
The Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra
In its 28th year, SRJO brings live orchestral jazz to audiences around Puget Sound. We want to provide more opportunities for our professional musicans to play.
The Clarence Acox Jazz Scholars
Jazz Scholars provides professional music education to more than 400 Seattle area students per year. SRJO would like to double our outreach.
Jazz4Kids
This popular program brings jazz to area elementary school children and their families. We would like to see Jazz4Kids return in 2023.
Our programs are especially critical to youth who lack resources and might be living difficult lives. Your support is how SRJO reaches them and do the truly important work SRJO does.
