Bringing Concerts to the Community
What is Jazz4Kids?
SRJO Jazz4Kids concerts are special events that provide our jazz scholars and the community they represent, an opportunity to hear top-tier jazz performed for them in their own neighborhood. This is to increase the access that young people have to the high-quality live music of cultural and historical significance. By bringing jazz music to these communities, we hope to positively impact future generations with inspirational musical performances. Jazz4Kids Concerts are interactive, giving time and space for the audience to ask questions about the instruments, music, or history of the band and the band members!
Experiencing Jazz, Fostering Enthusiasm
The need for Jazz4Kids is very clear: Love for jazz in young people must be encouraged so that Black America's music is held up as the highest artistic example of the strength of diversity and creativity. Jazz is a reflection of the unique mixture of cultures found only in the United States, and is enjoyed by people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds. By encouraging young people throughout the area to enjoy and understand jazz, the SRJO is building a community that crosses racial and age barriers.
The SRJO's objective in giving free concerts for our communities is to introduce young audiences to this great Black American art form and to make it possible for members of our underprivileged communities to enjoy live music performed by the best musicians in the area, alongside nationally-known guest artists.
The SRJO has enjoyed a great deal of success in presenting free concerts for young people. Audiences have shown great enthusiasm for the performances, and attendance has included many families with young children to young adults in school and community groups. We are hoping to increase access to our concerts by going to the schools and community groups directly. Free tickets are distributed to parents, teachers, schools, and community organizations throughout the region.
